Biografía
Claudia Pagès Rabal was born in Barcelona in 1990 and is based in the city. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona and works as a visual artist, performer and writer. Her interdisciplinary practice brings together language, bodies, music and movement, drawing on linguistics, psychoanalysis and decolonial studies.
Pagès Rabal’s work traces the continuity between physical systems of circulation—such as navigation, transport and commodity exchange—and the movement of language through legal and administrative structures. She focuses on the “architectures of containment”, examining how power is maintained through the circulation of goods and capital, with particular attention to water, paper and language. Her projects take the form of performances, readings, video installations, works on paper, publications and other visual and linguistic devices.
She has presented readings, performances and exhibitions at institutions including SculptureCenter, New York; CA2M, Madrid; IVAM, Valencia; Fundació Joan Miró and MACBA, Barcelona; Tabakalera, Donostia–San Sebastián; Vleeshal, Middelburg; Kunstverein Braunschweig; La Casa Encendida, Madrid; CAPC Musée d’Art Contemporain, Bordeaux; HAU Hebbel am Ufer, Berlin; and Sharjah Art Foundation. Her recent solo exhibitions include Banditry at Fundació Joan Miró, Barcelona (2023); In Practice: Claudia Pagès at SculptureCenter, New York (2024); and Five Defence Towers at Chisenhale Gallery, London (2025). She also participated in Manifesta 15 in Barcelona in 2024 and the 18th Istanbul Biennial in 2025.
Pagès Rabal received the Mondriaan Fonds Werkbijdrage Jong Talent in 2016 and the El Ojo Crítico Award for Visual Arts in 2022. She participated in artist residencies at Gasworks, London, in 2017; Triangle France–Astérides, Marseille, in 2020; and the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, Amsterdam, from 2020 to 2022.
Her publications include her hair, published by Onomatopee in 2020, and Rats and Roaches, published by Jupiter Woods, Yaby and Acción Cultural Española the same year. Her first novel, Més de dues aigües, was published in Catalan by Empúries Narrativa in 2024. In 2025, Wendy’s Subway published Gerund Violence, a book examining language, logistics and infrastructures of circulation.
