Biography

Klaus Weber (born 1967, Sigmaringen, Germany) is an artist who lives and works in Berlin. He studied at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin, where he completed an MA in 1995. Working primarily through sculpture and installation, Weber develops works that engage with physical, social, and environmental conditions through unconventional forms, materials, and spatial arrangements. His practice frequently transforms familiar objects, natural phenomena, and functional structures into situations that challenge established distinctions between the natural and the constructed, the useful and the sculptural. Weber’s work has been presented internationally in solo and group exhibitions. His major solo exhibitions include *All bodies fall equally fast* at Herald St, London, and Deutscher Künstlerbund, Berlin, in 2012; *Kugelmensch* at Herald St in 2017; *Nonuments* at the Volksbühne Pavillon in Berlin in 2019; and *Thinking Fountains* at Hayward Gallery, London, in 2021. Earlier projects include *Sandfountain*, presented as part of Frieze Projects East in London in 2012, and *AGEMO (Hybrid Naples)* at Fondazione Morra Greco in Naples in 2013. His work has also been shown internationally in institutions and exhibitions across Europe and the United States. A recurring characteristic of Weber’s practice is the transformation of materials, objects, and spatial situations into sculptural propositions whose meanings remain open and contingent. His works can involve industrial materials alongside organic or natural elements, while often retaining visible traces of their construction and physical processes. Rather than treating sculpture as an autonomous formal object, Weber frequently uses installation to create relationships between objects, architecture, environment, and the viewer. In 2025, Weber’s work was included in *Two Birds and a Stone* at Kunsthalle 1, CCA Andratx, and in *Cold as Ice. Coldness in Art and Society* at Weserburg Museum für moderne Kunst in Bremen. The latter exhibition brought together works addressing coldness both as a physical condition and as a metaphor for emotional detachment, lack of solidarity, and changing social conditions. Weber was represented by *Kältekompressor (born-died)*, a work originally made in 2019. His work has also been presented at institutions including Hayward Gallery, Nottingham Contemporary, Fondazione Morra Greco, Deutscher Künstlerbund, and Volksbühne Berlin. Through sculpture and installation, Weber continues to investigate how physical materials and constructed environments can produce unexpected relationships between bodies, objects, natural processes, and social conditions. His practice is characterized by an ongoing interest in transformation and in the possibilities that emerge when familiar forms are displaced into new spatial and conceptual contexts.
